Volunteers are an integral part of the Claremont Museum of Art. Dedicated and enthusiastic volunteers help the Museum fulfill its mission by generously contributing time, energy, and expertise to education, events, activities, public programs, and administrative operations.

Volunteers can expect to participate in satisfying experiences working with children, teens, college students, seniors, and community members. There are networking opportunities with artists and community leaders, and you can expect to expand your own understanding of art and be challenged by new ideas.

Docents act as liaisons between the Museum and the general public. They are facilitators who serve the Museum and the community in the field of art education, awareness, and appreciation. They are knowledgeable - or willing to learn - and passionate about the arts. They are of all ages with diverse backgrounds and experiences. It is a stimulating experience for both visitors and docents and is an essential part of the Museum's education and outreach programs.

Docents contribute to the Museum as facilitators for the exchange of ideas and information; they engage visitors in conversation about current exhibitions in a manner that promotes learning and encourages participation; and they may also participate in more formal, docent-led tours. They may also participate in more formal, docent-led group tours. Docents research and prepare background information on works of art in the Museum's collection and special exhibitions, and they give presentations at local schools and community organizations.

Event Volunteers work during exhibition openings and other special events by assisting with a variety of activities including event check-in; hosting in the galleries; and assisting with the Family SUnday art projects for families and children.

The Museum Store needs enthusiastic volunteers to provide excellent customer service.

Interns assist the Museum staff with special projects as they learn about the operation of an art museum. College students may be able to receive academic credit for their time as an intern.
